V8420 - a dud for me

Edited on 12/4/07: Thanks for all the encouraging comments! I guess I will try to salvage it based on some of your tips. I wasn't too sure about the color but it sounds like it's a winner. I don't wear much green but people do seem to comment on it when I do. Not sure if it's due to my skin color or green eyes? Who knows.

Cheryl, if I have no luck altering it for me, I will email you! I think the color would look great with your hair.

Isn't this top adorable? And look at the two versions made here and here. Cute, right?

Well look at mine. ICK!

It's obviously way too big but even after I tried to make it smaller, it's still not gonna work. I think this pattern is more suitable for someone who is a little more... ummm... blessed up top. Anybody want Vogue 8420 cut out in a size 10?

Bonnie could you salvage it by adding a little elastic to the neckline? Is it faced? I would try just going in between the top and the facing and adding a little clear elastic, that should draw the top up a little bit and salvage it. I think the color is great!

You know, I stayed away from this pattern because I'm extra blessed up top and thought it wouldn't work for me, LOL! The fabric looks gorgeous! I was going to suggest what Gaylen suggested - is it possible to pull the neckline in at all? It would change the look of this version slightly but it would still be wearable.

Bonnie, I agree with the others, could you pull in the neckline? Either with elastic or a drawstring casing? I love the color.

Aww it's too bad this one didn't work out- but I agree- maybe it can still be salvaged? This pattern was catching my eye too- we must have very similar taste :)

It's beautifully sewn, even if it doesn't fit!

It's so pretty...sorry you're not happy with the fit. I'd love to have it if you are serious! I think it would fit me pretty well.

What a cute top. I don't see why it didn't work for you. It almost looks like in the others that there are more pleats and they are smaller? I hope that you can find a solution.

I'm wondering if it's not the pattern itself. My friend tried on a similar shirt in two sizes and they BOTH fit her the same way at the neck.

It might just be the design, ya! It's meant to do that!! (just a hopeful thought since I just the same thing in the store on my friend).

The color is beautiful and I bet you will make it work!!

I don't think it's so bad. I agree that you could re-do the neckline somehow. If you look closely at the pattern, the neckline is meant to be quite low. That could be challenging to fit.

Whatever you decide keep in mind...duds happen!

I'm sorry it didn't work for you. I have this pattern as well and plan to make it ..., sometime in the near future. I hope you find a home for it. Happy Sewing!
