Knitting question

Edited tonight: Thanks for all the input. Unblocked it is! Working on the matching headband now.

Simple question to which I probably should know the answer....

Should I block this 2x2 rib scarf? The beauty of the 2x2 rib is how "bouncy" it is. if I block it, will that take away some of the springiness?

  1. Not unless the ribbing was part of a design and you needed to block it out to achieve the size you want. With this scarf you just enjoy the ribs.

BTW, my first comment to you, I enjoy the blog!

  2. I blocked half my scarf. But, I was such a sewist that I 'pressed' it instead of letting the steam do it's thing. I realize this isn't a really an answer. But, the knitting co-worker says blocking can hide a multitude of sins (of which my scarf has). So, if you like the way it looks and feels, I say don't blog. But, I know veeeeery little about the knitting :)

I vote for skipping the blocking.

I would say no. But the fact that you are wondering if you should - says maybe yes. I only block some things with a pattern - like sweaters. Never hats, socks, mittens or scarves - but that's just me. g

    ps - it's lovely.

  5. No, do not block it! I never block my scarves - not even lace ones - which are ones you probably should block - LOL! It looks very nice the way it is.

  6. I wouldn't. The yarn is so soft and scruncy I would leave it just the way it is.
